Regional Government advances with studies for new road connections

The Regional Government Council has approved, through Resolution no. 138/2026, the opening of a public procurement procedure for preliminary studies and environmental impact assessments for new road connections in Madeira. The total authorized investment amounts to 4,662,862.50 euros, plus VAT.

The project aims to address increased traffic on structural axes and enhance road safety, focusing on three main lots:

  • Lot 1: Up to 2,089,437.50 euros.
  • Lot 2: Up to 954,500.00 euros.
  • Lot 3: Up to 1,618,925.00 euros.

The planned interventions cover the VR1 Expressway (Quebradas-Canico section), the VE3 Expressway (western connections between Ribeira Brava and Calheta), and the creation of a bypass for the Encumeada Tunnel. The procedure will be carried out through an international public tender with publication in the Official Journal of the European Union.
