Autonomous Region of Madeira creates Honorary Insignia to celebrate 50 years of Autonomy

The Legislative Assembly of the Autonomous Region of Madeira has approved, through Regional Legislative Decree no. 3/2026/M, the creation of the Honorary Insignia of Prestige - '50 Years of Autonomy'. This exceptional distinction will be awarded exclusively during the year 2026 to mark the fiftieth anniversary of Madeiran Autonomy.

Objectives and Scope

The decree aims to recognize the merit of citizens, groups, or institutions, whether national or foreign, who have stood out for their relevant contribution to the preservation, deepening, and dignification of the Region's Autonomy. The distinction may be granted during one's lifetime or posthumously.

Award Process

The awarding of the insignia will be decided by the Regional Government Council, in the form of a resolution, upon the initiative of the Council itself, the President of the Regional Government, or the Executive Commission of the Mission Structure for the Commemorations. For legal entities, compliance with tax and social obligations is required.

Characteristics of the Insignia

The insignia features a specific design, including a 75 mm diameter gold circular medallion with dark blue, red, and white enameled elements, suspended by a dark blue ribbon with a central gold stripe. The reverse side bears the emblem 'What Unites Us. Autonomy'.

Duties of Recipients

Those honored with this distinction commit to:

  • Upholding the prestige of the Region in all circumstances;
  • Defending and promoting the Region's Autonomy;
  • Dignifying the insignia by all means.

The decree entered into force the day after its publication in the Official Journal of the Autonomous Region of Madeira.
